Having previously cited 80s rock as one of the stronger influences on their sound such as Queen and Pat Benatar, the harmonies achieved by the sisters on ‘Days Are Gone’ suggest a stronger affinity towards R&B or Synth-pop.

Haim are occupying the girl power slippers of our generation, only this time the uniform is less pink PVC and more rugged black leather and sexy guitars. Seductive and smart, they have produced a debut that ensures their UK shows this winter including a Glasgow date in December will be all hipster cool and not to be missed.At first listen it may appear that this San Fernando Valley trio may actually be in fact a reincarnation of Michael Jackson himself.Following their 2013 Glasto fame, HAIM (pronounced like ‘time’ FYI) have created a debut album combining a plethora of sounds, synths, and influences that pretty much everyone has fallen instantly in love with. Let Me Go is a shimmering guitar-fuelled, West Coast pop song that shows the girls music style as interesting, angelic and above all- bursting with talented ideas. An extremely interesting track from Haim and one of the strongest on the album. This then leads perfectly into the deep, angry and dirty My Song 5 which has a gut-churning base line and dirty guitar riff that takes this song and hits the likes of grunge rock ‘n’ rollers Deap Vally on their glitter covered faces. This synth-fuelled song is 1980’s, catchy and heartfelt. It’s was co-written by Jessie Ware and Kid Harpoon- opening up influences of folk and electro.
Then there’s the title track Days Are Gone which sees Alana Haim take the lead on the vocals giving this track a deeper tone. Honey & I starts with the sultry strumming reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac’s perfect song, Albatross. Dreamy, dainty and rhythmically-beautiful the track develops a tempting beat and haunting lead vocals from Danielle. New single The Wire is a stand out on the album, showcasing the band’s R&B influences and infectious hooks, the track is vulnerable and strong all at the same time. Stevie Nicks influences are infused with diamond pop harmonies and hooks that got everyone singing all summer long. The Forever EP, including tracks Better Off, Forever and Go Slow- two of which are on the debut album- shot the girls into the limelight as they graced magazine covers and radio station playlists around the world. But it was hit single and album opener Falling that shot the girls to the Main Stage at festivals around the world including T in the Park and Glastonbury.
